Vegas Themed Wedding Cake

This cake was made for some amazing friends who just got married. They are going to Vegas for their honeymoon so what better way to share that then with CAKE!!

I had so much fun making everything for this cake. The topper was bought awhile ago by the bride so to help incorporate the 'traditional' topper I used handmade roses.

All the decorations are gumpaste and handmade....lots of time and love went into this piece.

The top tier is a 6" chocolate cake filled with peanutbutter fluff and bits of reeces pieces. The bottom 8" cake is vanilla cake filled with cookies and cream buttercream.

Congratulations Dez and Jeffy!! Love you guys

Pink and Black Horse Cake

I LOVE this cake. I was asked to make a horse themed cake for our friends daughter who was turning 4. I wasn't sure what to do with the design and found a picture that I fell in love with.

The cake is an 8" vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream. The cake is covered in fondant with fondant flowers and a buttercream boarder. My favorite part is the horse silhouette, she turned out just the way I wanted. This is such a great little girls cake. Everything is edible :)

Monkey Shower Cake

This cake is a redesign of a cake I previously made. Who doesn't love a cute little monkey??

This 8" square cake is marble with vanilla buttercream filling, dyed blue for the little baby boy who will be here soon :)

Cake is covered in fondant with fondant buttons, bow and letters. The monkey face is hand cut :)

Butterfly 6th Birthday Cake

Our daughters friend had her birthday party on the weekend and I was asked to make the cake.
All she asked for was chocolate cake with no filling, purple icing, butterflies and some hearts.
I came up with this simple design to meet all her cake needs :)

The buttercream has a ruffled effect which I thought was really pretty. The letters, butterflies and hearts are all made from fondant.

Princess and the Frog

This cake was made for our friends daughters 4th birthday.
They wanted a 'Princess and the Frog' themed cake and had a picture they wanted the cake to look like.
The top  6" tier and bottom 8" are both chocolate cake filled with strawberry buttercream.

All the figurines were hand made and 100% edible. They are a few wires in them to help with support. I think the alligator is my favorite!!

I took a picture before I finished the cake, I still had to steam it and add the boarder around the 'Happy Birthday' sign.

1st Birthday Baseball Cake

One of my friends asked me to make her son's 1st birthday cake! She wan't a baseball theme and had seen a picture online of something she liked.
The cake is a 6" top and 8" bottom both marble cake filled with cookies and cream buttercream filling.
The little smash cake is vanilla cake, carved and covered in buttercream.

Both tiers are covered in buttercream icing with fondant decorations. The baseball on top is rkt covered in fondant and decorated with red buttercream icing.

The baseball 'smash cake' is made from a 6" carved vanilla cake and covered in vanilla buttercream.

88th Birthday Cake - The Famous Grouse

My husbands Grampa just turned 88! We wanted to bring him something specialwhen we went to the party so we brought the cake.

This cake was soooo rushed! The plan was to leave our house friday around 7pm - the party wasn't till sunday afternoon- so I had to bake the cakes friday morning. I pulled them from the oven at 10am and was waiting for them to cool and settle a bit before I started decorating. The phone rings at 11:30am, my wonderful husband tells me he's getting off early and wants to leave by 2pm...I think my jaw hit the floor. All I said was, 'I'll see what I can do'

I had a vision of what I wanted the cake to look like....and it didn't look like what I pictured in my head so I am kinda disappointed. But it tasted great and the birthday boy LOVED it!!

The cake was one 1/4 sheet cake cut in half, stacked and then carved. I covered it in white fondant and painted it with brown goof gel to try and get the whisky liquid effect...didn't turn out as I would have liked.

The label nearly killed me....my grouse is very sad looking. I was laughing at myself the whole time I was drawing it...if you were here you would have thought I'd been sampling the whiskey lol.

Cake Smash Photo Shoot!! Buttercream Rose Cake

Who hasn't wanted to dig into a cake with your bare hands?? Come on I know you've probably wanted to at some point in your life!!

Karen, a friend who is a  local photographer - btw she is AMAZING at what she does and I am so thankful to have met her!! - asked me to make a cake for a 1st birthday cake smash session she had booked in July. How could I resist such a wonderful opportunity??  I made the tutu and hair bow for the shoot as well, just another hobby that I'm totally addicted to....TULLE AND RIBBON. You can check out my facebook page and see what I've been creating, let me know what you think :) Little Birds Tutus & Boutique

Back to the cake at hand!!  Karen wanted something very girlie so I suggested doing the beautiful Buttercream Rose Cake. Nothing is more girlie to me than pink, roses and a sparkly tutu!!

Karen did such an amazing job photographing the cake...I think the picture looks better than it did in real life...though I'm told other wise :)

Here is one of the birthday girl digging into the Buttercream Rose Cake.

She is such a little doll, I love the way everything came together. Karen did an amazing job capturing the cake and the 'smashing' :) I am kinda jealous, I've always wanted to dig my hands into a big fluffy buttercream cake.

If you would like to check out some of Karen's work check out her facebook page K.C Photography

I'm looking forward to working with Karen again, so keep your eyes pealed for another cake smash post!!

6th Birthday Cake Designed by my 6 year old

My oldest daughter just turned 6...tears :( I asked what kind of cake she'd like for her party and she started to design her cake right away.

I had to follow her design to a T. She wanted a chocolate cake on top with vanilla and chocolate buttercream filling and a vanilla cake on the bottom with cookies and cream filling.

She even got to paint all the little butterflies...and by all I mean the little ones because I wanted to use my edible glitter on the big ones LOL...but she was happy with how it turned it, especially becasue she got to design it :)

Pink and Black Wedding Cake

My sister just got married!!! I was thrilled when she asked me to make her wedding cake.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the design of this cake! It took me awhile to figure out how to get the leaves to look nice as I don't have a fancy cutting machine but I got the results I wanted!!
It's hard to see but imprinted into the black fondant on the cakeboard it reads
'LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE'

My beautiful sister and my new brother in law cutting the cake!!

The top tier was a special tier for her husband as he doesn't like cake but loves reeces pieces! So I made a chocolate cake with peanut butter fluff filling and reeces piece.
The 8" second tier was vanilla with raspberry buttercream and the third 10" tier was chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling.

We also reused those fancy little tissue paper balls from the shower in the tent!!

Buttercream Wedding Cake

One of my best friends sister recently got married and I was asked to make her wedding cake. She had a couple of ideas of what she wanted: her wedding colours and flowers she liked and she let me do my thang :)
I love the look of this cake, it's simple yet beautiful but not too over powering.

The cake is made up of a 10" chocolate base with raspberry filling, the middle 8" and top 6" were both vanilla cake with raspberry filling. The entire cake was covered in an off white buttercream with a textured effect.
All the flowers are made of gumpaste and were hand made. I love the little pansy's and the kermits!!

I was also asked to make a dozen cupcakes, 6 chocolate and 6 vanilla

Pink, White & Zebra Wedding Shower

My mom and I threw a wedding shower for my sister back in May and I am just now getting around to posting about it.

My sister is an amazing person and I wanted her shower to reflect her in every way possible so I pulled out all the stops for her. I chose a pink, white and zebra theme. I have always wanted to do a candy buffet so this shower gave me the opportunity to not only do that but try my hand at some other things I've been wanting to try.

A friend of mine helped me to make a banner for the sweets table, 'LOVE IS SWEET' and I created one for the shower 'BRIDAL SHOWER' I also made many many many tissue balls. I love the way they turned out and I thought we could use them again at the wedding.

First I've always wanted to try French Macarons, it was definitely an experience! Fist off when they looked unbaked they're NOT....our first batch was very crispy but still tasty! Second use alot of food gel as the colour washes out, what looked pink before baking turned more brown. We filled them with chocolate ganache. They were sweet, chewy and mouth watering. I will forsure be making these again!!

Candied Orange slices we also a first. My mom really wanted to make these. They were actually really fun to make. Next time I think I would bake them alittle longer as some were chewy but they were very freshing!!

I made a bunch of cupcakes

Some different cake balls

I don't know why this pic is blurry??!!

Some chocolate dipped strawberries

I also made some fun sugar cookies, some dipped in chocolate, some with royal icing and some with fondant. I bought some edible glitter which I am now in LOVE with and want to use on EvERYTHING. Lesson on these cookies, don't get impatient no matter how excited you are to use your glitter. Wait until you base coat of royal icing in completely dry or the glitter will stick....I thought 3 hours would be enough time and I REALLY want to use my glitter lol.

The cake was so fun to make and I'm so happy with how it turned out. It's a 8" bottom and 6" top both made of  pink champange cake and filled with strawberry filling. The cakes are covered in fondant with fondant accents. I really wanted to add some 'bling' to the cake but didn't want to spend an arm and leg on rhinestones so I found something that looked like rhinestones. All the flowers are hand made :) Love you sister!!

Rapunzel Tower Cake

This cake took me about 20 hours to make but I love the way it turned out. There are some things that I wish I did differently but over all I'm happy with it. I'm especially happy with how my figurines turned out, I'm still trying to perfect faces!

The 8" cake is marble with cookies and cream filling. There's a wooden dowel that runs through the entire thing, from the bottom cake up into the tower.  The bottom part of the tower and the roof is made of rice krispy treats and are covered in white chocolate, buttercream and then fondant. The middle part of the tower where rapunzels is in the window is styrofoam....I didn't want the tower to be too top heavy. Everything is edible except for the foam in the tower.

Rapunzel's face took me so long make....She ended up in the garbage a few times but I finally got her the way I wanted. Rapunzel is made from fondant and is 100% edible

Flynn Rider is all 'Tangled' in Rapunzels hair. It took me awhile to get him to look like a man lol. He doesn't look like Flynn from the movie but I tried.
As an after thought I was thinking I should have put a 'Wanted' sign for Flynn Rider on the tower and put Rapunzels chameleon pascal on her shoulder. There's always next time :)

Winnie-the-Pooh 2nd Birthday Cake

I was asked to make a Winnie-the-Pooh themed cake for a friends daughters 2nd birthday. I wasn't really sure where to go with the design for the cake as it was a small 6" round...which doesn't give you a lot of space to decorate...especially with what I had in mind lol

So I went with the basics, Winnie and his buddy piglet, some flowers and of course a honey pot with some bees. I'm happy with how Pooh bear turned out but I had an unfortunate accident with my first piglet which I loved and he was...well...garbage :( My second one isn't as nice...might have been because I was a wee bit frustrated I had to remake him. I also got some awesome edible sparkles which I'm in love with and want to use on everything...but I figured I'd only glitterize the 2 :)

Ballerina 3rd Birthday Cake

My baby girl just turned 3...tears...She couldn't decide on what she wanted for her cake...she went from spiders to monkeys and finally decided on a ballerina theme...ok well I kind of influenced her alittle.
I really wanted to make another figurine lol

I wanted the main focus to be the ballerina as she took a bit of time to make so I made the rest of the cake simple.

I'm really happy how the ballerina figurine turned out. I'm still working on getting them to look 'real' but I'm making progress :) The cake was chocolate with chocolate ganache and cookies and cream filling...YUMMY!! The cake was covered a very ght pink fondant with pastel coloured flowers around the ballerina.

Shower Cake for Ryker

This cake was made for one of my closest friends. We have shared so much over the years from going to school, to weddings, to kids. I was so happy to be able to make this cake for her. The nursery theme was monkeys/junglish so I based the cake on that.

Both 6" and 8" cakes were chocolate with cookies and cream filling...as per requested by the Mama :)

All decorations are fondant and 100% edible. I just bought a new button mould so I wanted to use it on the cake.
My amazing friend recently had her son, Ryker Thomas Danger Kaye weighing in at 7 lbs 5oz. He is adorable and I love him so much!!

Owl Shower Cake

This cake was created for a friend who is due to have her baby in early May...hopefully soon :) They don't know the sex of the baby so I tried to make the cake as gender neutral as possible. I wasn't sure what to do for the design of the cake so I showed a few pictures to Megan and she really liked a two tiered owl cake. They only needed one cake so I did my best to incorporate both tiers into the one cake.

The 8" cake is chocolate with vanilla filling. The owls are hand cut and all decorations are fondant. I tried to 'frame' the owls with a tree...how do you think it turned out??

Pirate Map Cake

This cake was made for my nephews 5th birthday...it was kind of a last minute cake so it's not as neat and pretty as I would have liked....but my nephew loved it :)

6" vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream filling and covered in buttercream.
All decorations are fondant and are edible.

Pirate Cake

Sparkly treasure!!
